Methods: Sub-Bottom Profiling

Sub-Bottom Profiling
(Marine Seismic Reflection)

Applications

  • Bedrock mapping
  • Subsurface profiling

Method

The Sub-bottom Profiling (SBP) method, also known as marine seismic reflection uses the direct reflection of seismic energy to provide information on the sub-seafloor structure including rock level and changes in geological units.

GBG Group owns and operates a suite of SBP systems with interchangeable seismic sources (boomer, sparker and pinger) operating at various frequencies to provide shallow or deeper high-resolution sub-seafloor imagery.

Data Analysis & Presentation

Analysis of the collected SBP data involves manually picking identified interfaces which are then corrected to tide height to provide 2D or 3D contours of significant material boundaries based on the requirements of the project.
